By USInsurance.com Staff
You are all set to hit the open road with some of your worldly possessions and your sense of adventure. Before you embark on this trip of lifetime, make sure that you’re RV or camper is protected with RV insurance.
This special form of insurance is similar to a homeowner’s insurance policy that protects your RV and your possessions should a fire, theft or accident occur. Those who reside in their RV year-round are required to purchase this policy. There are no defined terms for those who use their RV on an occasional basis; however they should also consider insurance. You can either add a policy to your auto insurance plan or take out a separate RV insurance plan. Whatever you decide the most important thing is to protect your possessions and yourself should anything happen on the road.
Collision Protection: This protects the RV owner against damages or loss of their motor home, RV or camper. This may occur with full-on collusion from another object or car.
Personal Liability: This insurance policy covers any accidents that cause injuries to your body and damage to your RV up to $500,000.
Theft Protection: This provides the money for replacing stolen and damaged items in the RV. Since many people live in their RVs or motorhomes, many of their worldly possessions are housed there. Be sure your theft protection plan has a high personal property insurance plan. Check with your insurer what items are covered since satellite dishes and antennas may not be included.
Uninsured Motorist: If you are in an accident and the other driver is uninsured, this form of protection covers repairs on your RV.
Vacation Liability: This covers your RV up to $10,000 within a specific period of time at a specific place. This can be good if you use your RV on a seasonal basis
Towing and Labor Insurance: This protection provides funds should you need your RV towed or should you need any repairs.
Guaranteed Total Loss Replacement: If your RV is completely damaged, a total loss protection plan will cover the complete value of your RV so that you may replace it. Generally, this plan covers your RV for up to five years.
Emergency Insurance: This provides funds or quick assistance should your RV break down and you need gas or if you have a flat tire without a spare. The funds in this insurance policy provide money for getting help fast so that you can call a mechanic or get assistance.
