Why You Should Purchase Moving Insurance

By USInsurance.com

The question should actually be: why wouldn’t you purchase moving insurance. Let’s be frank: things get broken, damaged or lost when moving. Even though you and your movers have the best of intentions, anything and everything can happen on moving day. One to protect your items and offer you some peace of mind is by purchasing moving insurance. Still not convinced? Her are some more reasons why you shouldn’t move without being insured.

Reason 1: For a local or intrastate move, the moving company is only responsible $0.30 per pound per item, or $0.60 per pound per item with an interstate or international move. So if your 40 pound $400 TV gets damaged you will only be given $12. Most moving companies won’t push added insurance policies such as declared value protection, full replacement liability or those that protect extra ordinary value items. So it is up to you to seek these policies and ask about them.

Reason 2: Valuable items should stay valuable. We all have family heirlooms, antiques, crystals and even expensive computers that we would be very upset if anything should happen to them when moving. To save yourself some heartache, purchase a plan that covers the protection of extraordinary value items or items that are over $100. With this type of moving insurance, a high value inventory sheet must be filled out before you move.

Reason 3: Movers valuation protection is not an insurance plan. Valuation and insurance, though, similar to one another are very difference. Valuation protection is governed by federal requirements, while insurance is regulated by your state. Also, what items are actually protected vary between valuation and insurance, as does the cost.
