Insurance is perhaps one of the most beneficial methods that we have for assistance during incidents of financial loss. Almost everything we own, should be insured because most of the times the cost of replacement without it is quite large.
Many people do not consider pet insurance as being important. An example is of my friend whose dog got hit by a car. The options were to either proceed with an expensive surgery that had no guarantee of success, or to put the dog down.
Even in cases when surgery or treatment promises a guaranteed recovery, the cost of the procedure is way higher than an average person can afford. Pet insurance is the best option out there to provide medical security to your animal.
The first thing that comes to a pet owner’s mind when signing up for insurance is the cost. There are a large number of insurance exclusively for pets and so the options are many. Most of the times the premiums are not that high; usually equivalent to a dinner at a good restaurant. So for the cost of one sacrificed dinner a month, you can cover your pet’s medical bills.
Usually it is best to opt for a well-known company. The top companies include ASPCA, Banfield, Trupanion and Pets Best. It is important to know that Banfield is not a pet insurance company, the company provides “Wellness Plans” for your pet. This is also a good option if the owner prefers proper assistance for medical issues and not just payment of claims.
The reason for opting for a well-reputed insurance company is because their comprehensive plans with clear details. This saves you from the tedious task of finding out insurance coverage details and choosing your options for the plan from an average insurer.
The premiums of popular companies like Trupanion may increase without a valid reason because the company knows it will get business despite a rise in prices. But the advantage of getting a quality service efficiently is worth the small difference in price.
Mainstream insurance companies like these also have a very responsive and cooperative customer care and complaint department. If you are having problems with the service or are unhappy with any factor of the plan, the department makes sure that your issues are resolved quickly. This is because top companies have to maintain their reputation among customers to maintain a successful business. Average companies on the other hand may make mistakes and be uncooperative because of lack of experience, unqualified staff and limited resources.
This, however, does not mean that average companies are not also good. There are many small insurers who provide a very friendly and personal service to their clients. Often such companies have their own vets who can visit your residence regularly for check-ups as well. This is convenient for people with busy schedules.
The only thing that is important is that you go through the details of the plan thoroughly. As long as you are confident with the coverage and the corresponding premium, the policy is most likely a good option.
