Moving Insurance for a Small Move: What's Covered?
By USInsurance.com
When preparing to move, there are numerous things to consider from packing to locating movers. Additionally, there are incidental aspects that every consumer will have to deal with such as locating moving insurance to protect their personal property.
Moving insurance is an important item to be considered Just imagine arriving at your new home only to find that the moving company’s truck with all your belongings has been in an accident.
Another scenario might be that of your possessions being lost or stolen en route, never to be found again. Where will you find the money to replace every last item when the cost of the move has already cost you so much?
It is for these reasons that one has to seriously examine every aspect of the types of insurance available when one has to move home, whatever the size of the goods being moved.
Even people moving very little from the old home to the new must consider taking out an insurance policy to cover all eventualities, as the coverage is the same for small or large moves.
Insurance policies available for home moves are split into two categories. The first is that of the removal company; and the second it that of any special, expensive or irreplaceable items you may need to cover under a special policy because they will not be covered by the removal company’s policy.
First off, you must ensure that the moving company you choose for the job has valid insurance policies to cover the replacement costs of any items they may damage when packing up your home, while your possessions are in transit and when they unpack the goods at your new home. Ask the company’s representative to see their policies and check to see what they cover, including all the small print. Most insurance policies taken out by mover are what are called Limited Liability policies. Unfortunately, these policies only cover the minimum liability required under law.
Any items or eventualities not covered must be personally insured by the householder. Check to see if your personal homeowner’s insurance policy will cover your possessions in transit too, as this may save you a considerable amount of money
